West Australians who have visited any of the exposure sites visited by Victoria’s first COVID-19 case in 73 days must get tested immediately and quarantine for 14 days.

It comes as a new local case emerged in Melbourne today. Authorities believe the case was likely infectious from May 6- 10.

WA Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson said the risk to WA was low.

“However, the situation highlights the importance of remaining vigilant to prevent any spread of the virus or community transmission in this State.

“We will continue to monitor the situation in Victoria very closely and issue updated health advice if required.”

Among the list of exposure sites announced by the Victorian Government on Tuesday was an Indian restaurant in Melbourne’s CBD and a Woolworths in the city’s northern suburbs.

The infected man, aged in his 30s, had completed hotel quarantine in South Australia after returning to Australia from India via the Maldives and Singapore. He arrived at his home on Melbourne’s northern fringe, on May 4 before developing symptoms on May 8.

Health authorities say he likely contracted the disease while at the Adelaide medi-hotel.

Victorian Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said the man did not breach the India travel ban and had been in Australia since April.

The man’s three primary household primary contacts have tested negative.

The infected man is currently isolating at home.
