Chittering: Locals urged to evacuate as out-of-control bush fire engulfs part of property and threatens lives
A bushfire has impacted property — and has got dangerously close to homes — in Morangup, near Toodyay.
Vision from the 7NEWS helicopter on Sunday afternoon shows flames engulfing sheds and vehicles at a property on McKnoe Road in Morangup.
Those in the area are currently under a watch and act level fire alert.
The fire is not contained nor controlled.
It is one of several bushfires burning across the State.
People living in parts Waggrakine and Moresby, near Geraldton, have been told homes are currently under threat by fire and that it is too late to leave.
Residents bounded by North West Coastal Highway, Cooper Street, Sutcliffe Road, Longva Road, Forrester Road and Nerrel Street have been told they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive.
“There is a threat to lives and homes,” DFES warns.
“Homes in the area are under threat by fire now.”
The fire was reported at 10.30am and is moving fast in a northerly direction.
Meantime, another emergency-level blaze is burning in Cullalla and Mooliabeenee in the Shire of Chittering.
People in the area have been told they are in danger and need to act immediately to survive as there is a threat to lives and homes.
The fire was reported at 11.10am.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued the bushfire emergency warning just after midday for people bounded by Cook Road, Cullalla Road, Barn Road and Bindoon Moora Road in the Shire of Chittering.
For people in the emergency warning area, if the way is clear leave now for a safer place.
The DFES warning advises residents to evacuate in a southerly direction towards Bindoon.
Firefighters are actively working to contain the blaze.
