Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenualt’s clubrooms at Brunswick Oval receive fresh coat of paint from North Melbourne

Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault’s clubrooms at Brunswick Oval were given a fresh coat of paint by AFL club North Melbourne on Friday. Ahead of Sunday’s history-making clash between the Kangaroos and West Coast at Bunbury’s Hands Oval, a contingent from the club including assistant coaches Michael Barlow and Xavier Clarke helped paint the club’s home in their colours of maroon and gold as part of club sponsor Dulux’s Colour Your Club initiative. Himself a country product from Shepparton in regional Victoria, Barlow said giving back to the game at the local level was hugely important. “Local footy clubs, myself growing up in the country, are the heart of the community,” Barlow said. “To be able to give the place a bit of a liven up thanks to Dulux is a great initiative and I’m happy to help.” Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault volunteer Mark Talbot, a lifelong North Melbourne supporter, said he was excited to have the Kangaroos at his local club. “Club’s are all full of volunteers and to have some help to do the little things around the place helps,” he said. “It just freshens things up and it’s something we can look at for years to come and remember this day.” After finishing the job, Barlow and Clarke — who both played more than 100 games at the top level — took dozens of the club’s younger players through some drills. Barlow said the enthusiasm on display was great to see. “Prioritising balanced lifestyles and education using sport is an outlet is really important,” he said.
