Broome welcomed the 952 ft Crown Princess cruise ship early this morning as it became one of the first major vessels to berth at the new floating jetty which opened last month.

The arrival brought a wave of excitement as more than 3,000 passengers and crew to the Kimberley port.

The Crown Princess’s visit marks an important milestone for Broome’s maritime operations. The new floating wharf at the Port of Broome features 24/7 operational capability and has been engineered to rise and fall with the tides, ensuring vessels can dock safely at any time of day or night.

The infrastructure upgrade is expected to strengthen Broome’s position as a key gateway for cruise tourism in northern Western Australia. Local businesses are also anticipating a welcome boost as visitors disembark to explore the town’s beaches and cultural attractions.

Port officials said the floating jetty would allow for more consistent scheduling of cruise ship arrivals, reducing delays caused by tidal variations that have previously limited berthing times.
