Broome’s community backbone

Broome volunteers have been celebrated at a special event to mark International Volunteer Day.
The Shire of Broome, together with Broome Circle, welcomed more than 50 dedicated community members to the event at the Boome Surf Lifesaving Club on December 4.
A special episode of the Volunteer Champs podcast was also recorded on the night by Goolarri Media, capturing the voices and experiences of local volunteers for the wider community.
Councillor Sean Cooper, who attended the celebration, said volunteers played an essential role across the region’s diverse organisations, from sporting clubs and cultural groups to environmental initiatives and support services.
“Volunteers are the backbone of Broome,” he said.
“Their generosity and commitment help make our town the connected, supportive and vibrant place we are all proud to call home.
“This event was an opportunity to give back — to celebrate their achievements and express our appreciation.”
