Broome police investigate series of thefts that left stolen car ‘engulfed in flames’

Police are investigating a series of burglaries that ended with a car being set alight in Broome on September 17.
At 11.45pm on September 17, a person allegedly broke into a home on Herbert Street before stealing a grey Toyota Prado parked in the driveway.
Hours later at 2.20am on September 18, five people allegedly broke into three separate rooms at a resort on Challenor Drive where a backpack, a black leather wallet and two sets of car keys were stolen.
The keys were then allegedly used to steal a silver Toyota Kluger and Toyota Corolla.
Police say they found both vehicles being driven in a reckless manner at the Dora and Anne streets intersection at 3.10am and attempted to intercept them.
The drivers then allegedly tried to ram police vehicles, driving directly at them, before police abandoned the interception effort due to safety reasons
The Toyota Corolla was later found engulfed in flames at the intersection of Woods Drive and Dann Place before Department of Fire and Emergency Services officers extinguished the fire.
Police allege they received reports that three juveniles had been seen setting the vehicle alight before leaving the area in another unknown vehicle.
The silver Toyota Kluger was later found abandoned on Sahanna Place while the Toyota Prado was located abandoned in bushland between Gubinge Road and Woods Drive in Cable Beach at 10.10am.
It comes after a string of car thefts and deliberate police vehicle rammings in the Kimberley over the past month.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police urge anyone who has any information or footage in relation to this crime series to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online via www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
