Leslie Grantham: Former Comanchero bikie known as ‘Lethal Les’ issues powerful message on the Fresh Start TV

A feared former bikie enforcer has issued a powerful message to wannabe gangsters in a rare interview after spending more than a decade in jail and surviving being shot and left for dead. Leslie Grantham — known as “lethal les” — was the sergeant-at-arms of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle gang before he was shot three times and had gang tattoos on his legs burned in May last year. CCTV released by police showed a car speeding through the carpark of Rockingham General Hospital before an injured Grantham was dumped near the entrance. Shocking photos of his injuries were released by the gang crime squad in an attempt at locating his attackers and to highlight the dangers of adhering to the underworld lifestyle. After surviving the ordeal — which is suspected of being organised by his former club after he wanted out of the gang —Grantham has reiterated those dangers while making his life story public in the hopes he can inspire others away from a life of crime. In a interview on The Fresh Start podcast, Grantham told host David Obeda that he was “ready” to speak out in order to move on with his life and after months of recovering from serious injuries. Grantham hinted that the hardest part of enduring the attack from last year wasn’t the pain, but instead the fact the club had turned on him. “Of course the adrenaline’s pumping (during the attack), but the pain wasn’t so much (physical),” Grantham said, before pointing to his head referencing the mental impact he endured. “Even though I didn’t know the people (who did it), there’s was other people I was thinking about at the time that I cared extremely a lot about . . . not just them but their families. “Good luck to you, and good luck to your families. I don’t want no hard feelings, I just (want to) get on with my new journey. You’ve done me a favour, I’ve learned a lot. God bless you.” Grantham confidently said he had never broken a club rule besides taking drugs. He added that the lifestyle was “unpredictable” and that clubs were known to go to extreme measures when issues came about. “Take every bit of advice I can give you, I’m not saying don’t do what I did, but if you’re going to do what I did, have a real good think about who you leave behind,” he said. “Have a real good think about what your priorities are because the priorities (should be) with kids and family and loved ones — all that is a lot better than Louie Vuitton (LV), money and belts. LV, money and nice cars or looking cool on Instagram, this is way more important than that. “You might be carrying the LV bag and have the TN’s on, but I guarantee you, if you not in the “in in” crew, and something goes pear-shaped or they’ve got a little bit of a bone to pick with you, watch out. “Don’t even worry about a bus for you mate, you might as well get kicked off by the conductor because it’s gone. One day it’s going to happen.” Grantham said the emotional conversation — which touched on his love for his mother and move to WA from Melbourne — made him feel like “a million bucks” and that a weight had been lifted off his chest. “One day you’re getting your colours, the next day your losing everything you owned,” he said. “(I lost) everything every time I went to jail. After 10 and a half years I’ve done in prison, it’s just everything, I lost. “What I got out of it, was pretty much a kick in the hole. “I’m a free man, I’ve always been me. I didn’t need nothing (a bikie patch) on my back, and no disrespect to them, having them on my back was a great honour, but I don’t need that. “I got nothing out of it, man, besides a lot of good memories and a handful of very special people.” In October, Grantham responded to questions by The West Australian outside Perth District Court, saying he was “going great, mate” before a heated exchange. When asked who was responsible for the ordeal, Mr Grantham said “got no idea, you f....ng idiot, f... off.” The interaction was published on the front page of The West, which Grantham shared this week captioning “Lethal Les to Les Grantham” — reaffirming rumours that he departed from his former lifestyle. The bombshell interview comes as Grantham is due to face a District Court Trial later this year after being charged with dealing with proceeds of crime with property or cash worth more than $100,000.
