An outback misadventure has ended in a high-flying rescue thanks to a chance encounter involving WA billionaire Tim Roberts and his private helicopter.

Traveller Bill Kosky and his son found themselves in a perilous situation in remote South Australia after their vehicle became hopelessly bogged in thick mud.

The pair were left marooned in the State’s unforgiving far-north for more than 12 hours, with hopes of being rescued fading.

However, a stroke of pure luck intervened.

Mr Roberts had touched down and stopped at the iconic William Creek Hotel when he overheard concerned locals discussing two travellers who had failed to return from their journey.

The WA billionaire took to the skies in his private chopper, recruiting William Creek local legend Trevor Wright to assist with the aerial search.

The eagle-eyed duo managed to spot the stranded pair from above.

“I thought you were in the army or something,” a relieved Mr Kosky said upon seeing Mr Roberts’ helicopter descend.

Speaking after the ordeal, Mr Kosky admitted he was feeling “much better” after finally being spotted and plucked from the isolated terrain.
