Ex-Bachelor star and fitness influencer Sam Wood will spend tonight behind bars after his bid for bail was denied.

The 46-year-old appeared via video link at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon after spending five nights in a holding cell.

Wood is facing one count of assault occasioning bodily harm (domestic violence) and one count of strangulation in a domestic setting following an alleged dispute at a Noosa holiday home on Saturday evening.

His lawyer had previously told media that Wood would fight the allegations against him.

While Wood’s wife Snezana was not present at the hearing, his lawyer Mathew Cuskelly and father Andrew were seen walking to the court house together shortly after 1pm local time.

Mr Cuskelly said in front of a packed courtroom that his client would be considering a self-defence argument if the matter went to trial.

“My client may indeed be entitled to a self-defence argument,” he said.

“He is indicating a set of circumstances that may result in that.”

Speaking on the details of the case, Mr Cuskelly said a dispute broke out at the Noosa holiday home.

“My client’s step-daughter engaged with him in a hostile matter,” he told the court.

“Mr Wood’s pushed his wife away.

“Importantly, there is a denial in respect to any strangulation.”

It is understood photos of the alleged victim’s injuries were also presented to the court during Thursday’s hearing.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jeanette Grigoris told the court on Thursday that the alleged victim had given a recorded statement, though they had not yet got a statement from a witness.

“We have been in contact with the complainant ... she is in support of the criminal charges,” Sergeant Grigoris said.

Mr Cuskelly said Mr Wood planned to return to Melbourne and seek mental health treatment if granted bail.

He revealed his 46-year-old client had been “diagnosed with severe depression” by a forensic psychologist while behind bars.

Wood built his profile after appearing on The Bachelor Australia in 2015, where he met his now-wife.

The couple married in 2018 and share three children, Willow, Charlie and Harper. They also co-parent Snezana’s daughter Eve, 21, from a previous relationship.

Wood and Snezana released a joint statement on social media on Monday following his arrest.

“This is a difficult time for all of us, we are working through this as a family and are thoroughly co-operating with the authorities,” they said.
