Precious Plastic Margaret River has made the “unfortunate” move of pausing its collection of plastic lids as the volunteers behind the region’s eco-friendly venture eye potential homelessness.

As reported earlier this month, the Cowaramup-based group is seeking the lease for a new headquarters.

However, the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River has been unable to help, and the region’s tight property market means few suitable places are available.

In a statement this week, co-founder Narelle Kuppers asked residents to hold off with their donations.

“It’s with great regret we will need to stop collecting lids,” Ms Kupper said.

“We calculate that we already have 2400kg of plastic lids waiting to be processed at the shed.

“We are unable to accept any further plastic until we secure a new workplace.”

The group is seeking a potential landlord as well as financial help to find a permanent base.
