West River crash: Woman escapes serious injury after car rolls on South Coast Highway in Ravensthorpe

A woman in her 30s has escaped serious injury after she rolled her car on South Coast Highway on Wednesday night. The 39-year-old was travelling east along South Coast Highway in West River when she lost control of her green Mitsubishi Colt and left the road. Speaking to the Albany Advertiser on Thursday, Ravensthorpe Officer-in-Charge Sergeant Mike Nardini said the woman had been driving for hours, having started her journey in Australind in the shire of Harvey. She was on her way to Esperance when she lost control of the vehicle. She managed to get herself out by the time emergency services arrived and was taken to Ravensthorpe Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. In a post to X on Thursday, Ravensthorpe Police shared a photo from the scene and reminded drivers to take care. “The driver was lucky to escape serious injury thanks to a securely fastened seat belt,” it said. “Don’t drive tired!” As more drivers take to the road for the Easter long weekend, Sgt Nardini had a clear message. “Just be patient and enjoy the journey,” he said. “It’s not about getting to where you got to get to in a hurry. “Enjoy your weekend, be courteous, and stay safe.” The crash was the first of three on Great Southern roads by Thursday afternoon ahead of the long weekend. An elderly couple were taken to hospital after colliding with a truck on Albany Highway in Centennial Park on Thursday. Just over an hour later, there was another car v truck collision, this time involving three people on South Coast Highway. Inquiries into the West River crash are ongoing.
