Red-hot Railways make it five straight wins this season

Railways added to their already sizeable percentage after a 41-point demolition of Albany in round five of the Great Southern Women’s Football League at Tigerland on Friday night.

The Tigers kicked the only goal of the first term, and by half-time had opened up a 21-point buffer.

Maddie Dallimore and Mereana Wynne had the ball on a string for the home side and they helped their side skip further clear after the long break, the Tigers adding two more majors in the third.

A final-quarter goal sealed the emphatic result, the Tigers running out winners 6.5 (41) to nil.

Britney Bolton and Kanisha Bennell were terrific in the forward half as they each kicked two goals.

Wynne and Dallimore were stars along with Emily Wray, while Bolton was also named in the Tigers’ best players.

The Tigers have won their first five matches of the 2021 season and boast a percentage of 691 after holding the Sharks scoreless.

Sian Lucas, Jessikah Woods, Marlee Ashton and Emma Walker were the Sharks’ best contributors.

Royals notched their fourth win of the season after outlasting a gritty Denmark-Walpole outfit at Tigerland as well.

Sisters Henrietta and Georgina Lilford kicked goals that were pivotal in the 15-point triumph for the Lions.

Taylah Orzel was influential, Nardia Humphries won plenty of the ball, and Katelyn Russ was also in the Lions’ best players as they kicked two goals in the opening term and didn’t look back.

The Magpies got back within striking distance after a third-quarter goal from Emma Henderson, but they could not add to that major.

Kellie White, Rebecca MacDonald, Sophie Coates and Kristy Henwood-Wimpenny were the best for the Magpies. At the Eastern Precinct, North Albany won a tight contest over Mt Barker.

The Kangas kicked the only goal of the second half to win by five points.

Holly Minter finished with two majors and Laura Archer also hit the scoreboard as the Kangas won a second game of the season.
