Marg Gregory, mother of Mark Edward Gregory, implores public for help into her son’s mysterious 1991 death

The mother of the Albany man who died under mysterious circumstances after walking home from a birthday party in Walmsley in 1991, has said she has a “good feeling” about the cold case reopening. Marg Gregory has spent the past 35 years in limbo, wondering what happened to her son Mark Edward Gregory in the early hours of April 7. After the police announcement on Tuesday that the investigation would be reopened into the death of her 28-year-old son, Ms Gregory said she was feeling positive someone might finally divulge information that would solve the case. “After the last time it reopened and nothing happened I wasn’t sure about waking it all up again,” he said. “We all get upset about it and we go through those days of sitting around not being able to do anything because we’re thinking about him, but this time I’m not sure. “I’ve got a different feeling.” The last time Ms Gregory saw her son was at the joint birthday party for two family friends which they both attended. Mark was walking home from the event when he was struck by an unknown vehicle on Mercer Road. She left the event at about 12.30am to 1am with her partner and a few others, with Mark telling her he wanted to stay longer. He was found on the roadside by a passing motorist about 4.55am with fatal injuries. “I saw his face on the (Facebook) post yesterday, and I just burst into tears,” she said. “You never get over it when it is your child. “I’m almost 86 years old now and I would like to know what happened before I pass on.” She said police had been liaising with the family, including Mr Gregory’s two now-grown children Zane and Casey, to update them on the investigation and ask for new information they may have heard over the intervening years. “Somebody in this town knows something,” she said. “I feel pretty good about this time. “I just hope something comes of it as it has been a long time. “Anyone knows anything, they should just get in touch with police — even the people who wrote the letters — to let them know what you know. “We just need one or two leads and then, pray to God, we can get some answers.” Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via crimestopperswa.com.au or call 1800 333 000.
