Jeremy McGovern back in action as Eagles break Gold Coast drought while Liam Baker also impresses for Richmond

West Coast vice-captain and North Albany star Jeremy McGovern fitted back into his side seamlessly as the Eagles won their first game in the Gold Coast hub, beating Sydney on Saturday.

McGovern returned to a struggling Eagles outfit after missing the past two matches through suspension and an ankle injury.

The Eagles enjoyed their first success of the interstate venture after a brilliant second half secured a 34-point win over the Swans.

McGovern picked up 10 touches and four marks in defence as the Eagles back six restricted the Swans to just six goals.

Pingaring’s Liam Baker and his Tigers teammates also notched their first win since the AFL restarted after shrugging off Melbourne on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.

Baker returned to the Tigers side last week and played an important role in this week’s 27-point win.

Playing mainly as a defender, Baker did spend time late in the game in the midfield and at centre-bounce stoppages as he finished with 17 possessions and two inside 50s.

Carlton forward and North Albany junior Mitch McGovern had little impact for his side as they went down to St Kilda by 18 points at the MCG on Thursday night.

The Blues had won their past two games by small margins and McGovern had booted two majors in each outing but they were unable to get the job done against the Saints.

The youngest McGovern collected six possessions and two marks.

Fellow North Albany product Marley Williams gathered 12 touches, three marks and one inside 50 in North Melbourne’s 49-point loss to the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.
