The State Government has issued a call out for investors to help develop more than 200 additional homes for frontline workers across regional WA.

An expression of interest was opened on Wednesday as a bid to boost government regional officer housing availability in areas such as Albany, Kalgoorlie, Port Hedland, Karratha, Broome, and Geraldton.

Subsidised GROH homes are provided to workers in the education, health, community safety and policing sectors.

Investors can choose to participate in the program which will add an additional 200 build-to-lease GROH homes to the 500 already promised in the $692m housing package of the State budget.

Of these 500 new GROH homes, Albany was promised 26.

Housing and Works Minister John Carey said the additional GROH homes were vital to the realisation of the State government’s Seven Cities vision.

“We’re calling on the private sector to work with us to deliver 200 additional GROH homes as part of our record housing investment,” he said.

“To continue to deliver high quality services in our growing regional cities, we will need additional homes for our teachers, police and other essential government workers.

“The expanded GROH investor program and the Seven Cities vision is supported by our government’s record $10.8 billion investment in housing since 2021.”

He said the additional homes will be developed within the next five years.

The Department of Housing and Works will provide help and feedback to investors on their EOI once submitted.
