IN PICTURES: Janice and Mark Ford shave their heads to fundraise for Hawthorn House at Christmas Fair

The gardens of Hawthorn House were awash with festive cheer and generosity on Saturday as hundreds visited the dementia day home for the annual Christmas Fair. Attendees browsed 36 stalls, with wares ranging from cakes, candles and plants to knitted garments and homemade handbags. Many stalls offered a portion of all profit to Hawthorn House, bolstered by the gold coin donation required for entry. A sausage sizzle proved popular as did the Devonshire tea, with Hawthorn House volunteers carefully spreading jam and cream on homemade scones. The Bayside Community Brass Band provided the day’s entertainment with items painted and crafted by Hawthorn House clients raffled and sold. The fair was highlighted by the shaving of Mark and Janice Ford’s heads, who braved the clippers to fundraise for the facility, that Mr Ford attends.
