Four winners to Tash Faithfull and double to Rosie Mahony as female jockeys take a clean sweep at Albany meet

Female jockeys produced a clean sweep of the seven-race card at Albany’s Percy Spencer Racecourse on Thursday. Albany hoop Tash Faithfull and local apprentice Rosie Mahony combined to win six of the seven races on offer while Chanel Cooper was successful in race three. Mahony started the day with a bang, riding a double with her only two rides of the whole meeting that were both from the Steve Wolfe stable. Playing God filly Lordgivemestrength was ultra-impressive breaking her maiden status in race two over 1600m. At her sixth career start Lordgivemestrength was sent straight to the front by Mahony after drawing awkwardly in barrier 11 and they were able to dictate terms in front. The $3.90 chance had plenty left in the home straight as they booted clear inside the final 200m to win by more than three lengths in a dazzling display. That was the second leg of a Wolfe and Mahony double after they combined to win the Future Technologies Handicap (1100m) in very similar fashion. The well supported Avoidance ($2.60) was far too strong in the small field, leading from start to finish under Mahony. The six-year-old gelding ran fourth in the Fitzpatrick Plate this year and that form held up, demolishing his rivals by almost seven lengths. Faithfull stamped her authority on the meeting, riding the last four winners for the afternoon. However that joy was soured by a nine-day careless riding suspension, suffered in race six when getting Cherokee Miss up to a narrow win. Albany trainer Ashleigh Wollett continued her strong Great Southern season, with Faithfull lifting Kamakazi Shooter ($3.50) up to edge out early leader Real Deluxe ($2.80) in race four over 1000m. Famous Dain was then a comfortable watch for punters, saluting at $1.75 in the Nutrien Ag Solutions Albany Handicap (1900m). Faithfull sat second to Magic Mikey in running but the Daniel and Ben Pearce-trained galloper was in a league of his own in the final 400m blitzing the rest of the field to win by more than five lengths. Cherokee Miss, trained by Matthew Scott, jumped a $6.50 chance for Faithfull and wore down The Mighty Butch ($9.50) in the concluding stages to win by a short half head. Faithfull pleaded guilty to careless riding on the winner, allowing her mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear at about 1400m mark and crowded Secret Deploy as a result. Stewards considered Faithfull’s good record under this rule and the degree of carelessness was low. She will commence her ban after this Thursday’s final Albany meeting of the season. The Pearce team finished with a double after Wineaclocksumwhere ($5) took out the final race over 1230m, relishing the 54kg weight to beat $2.60 favourite God Has Drifted by a head. The Nutrien Ag Solutions Albany Maiden (1000m) went to I’m That Girl ($9) from the stable of Alan Smith. Cooper got the best out of the former Luke Fernie-trained mare to down Lady Coco and Sansanee by more than a length.
