CSBP junior country week hailed as a great success for Albany and Districts Cricket Association’s five teams

The CSBP junior country week campaign was a huge success for all five Albany and District Cricket Association teams, according to ADCA co-ordinator Carl Mueller. The under-14 A team became champions and the under-16 As reached the grand final, but even the sides that found it hard going made the most of the experience. “It was a success for everyone – players, management and volunteers,” Mueller said. “It is a major undertaking, but the kids were fantastic, sticking to their schedules and enjoying every minute.” The under-16 B side had a tough time, losing their five pool games and finishing bottom of a ladder topped by rivals Great Southern. However, they finished on a high, beating Bunbury and Districts in their fifth v sixth play-off, which Mueller said was reward for their great attitude throughout. “That final game took a massive effort,” he said. “They had been positive all week and they all enjoyed themselves.” The ADCA under-14 B side dominated their third-place play-off against Bunbury and Districts, walloping an impressive 234 all out, thanks mainly to the efforts of Zephyr Endacott (66) and Jobe Rumble (52). With Digby Skinner topping up the total with 27, Bunbury were set an unreachable target. Three wickets from Kobi Berger and two from Robert Fergie ensured they didn’t come close as they were all out for 104. The under-14 C team lost their third-place play-off to Northam by four wickets. ADCA reached 8-128 but were chased down as Northam got home at 6-130. Jack Turpin and Charlie Lehman were ADCA’s best with the bat, grabbing 19 runs apiece. Hamish King and Brody Button took two wickets each. Mueller thanked the team managers and coaches for their contributions in looking after players who had competed for around 500 overs over the week. ADCA sent five teams to the competition which ran from January 5-9 at various venues all over Perth.
