Australian Christian College Southlands hits the waves for annual surf lifesaving carnival
Australian Christian College Southlands held its alternative swimming carnival at Middleton Beach on April 9 as students took to the waves rather than the pool.
Students ranging from Years 5 to 12 traded traditional pool lanes for Middleton Beach waves in the school’s annual surf lifesaving carnival.
The carnival combines land-based training and essential surf skills, teaching students to read ocean conditions and spot hazards.
Students also learn to catch waves on surfboards, how to use rescue boards and swim in surf.
ACCS principal David Ramsay said the students had a great day.
“Students had a whole lot of fun out on the water as well as running events on the sand,” he said.
“There is a perfect balance of competition and encouragement.”
