A new $6.3 million performing arts centre is set to bolster the next generation of young talent at Albany Senior High School.

The revamp joins a raft of upgrades to be rolled out across 63 WA public schools within the next four years as part of the State Government’s record $492.3 million investment into school infrastructure.

The ASHS youth centre, built in 1966, will soon be upgraded to a modern facility to showcase a new wave of young performers.

ASHS principal Jenny Firth said the school community was extremely pleased to receive a new centre.

“We are fortunate to have multi-skilled and inspiring teachers who nurture and support the development of young people’s talent across all genres of music and a diverse range of instruments,” she said.

“This will provide an expanded facility for music teaching, student performances, rehearsals, audio recording, and showcasing the arts, as well as an ATAR exam venue.

“The upgraded facility will also be available for community arts performances.”

The school has produced several talented alumni making waves across the music industry including singer-songwriter Carla Geneve, opera singer Bonnie Staude and double bassist Jack Charles.

The new centre’s 12-month construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2021.
