Mindfulness, connection and wellbeing will be honoured on Wednesday as Albany joins the global celebration of International Yoga Day with a free community yoga session.

Hosted jointly by Southern Aboriginal Corporation and Consulate General of India, the session will focus on gentle movement, meditation, and self-awareness practices that promote holistic wellbeing.

SAC chief executive Asha Bhat said the event is the first time Albany has joined International Yoga Day.

“We’re proud to host Albany’s very first International Yoga Day event,” she said.

“This free session is an invitation for everyone — no matter your background or experience — to take a moment for your wellbeing.

“It’s part of SAC’s broader commitment to community-led, culturally inclusive initiatives that bring people together in meaningful ways.”

The inclusive session is designed for all levels of experience and will be led by local instructor Ritu Rawat.

“This is a beautiful opportunity to slow down and reconnect with yourself,” Ms Rawat said.

The hour-long session will be held at the meeting rooms of the Albany Public Library at 6pm on June 18.

“You don’t need to be experienced or flexible — just bring an open mind.

“Yoga is for everyone.”

The hour-long session will be held at the meeting rooms of the Albany Public Library at 6pm on June 18.

Attendees are asked to bring a yoga mat, water bottle and comfortable clothes to the event.
