Reading a good book or enjoying a warm bowl of soup — they are hard to beat.

But what if you could raise money for a great cause by doing both of those things?

Albany Community Hospice has teamed up with a trio of talented local creators for its latest fundraiser, Authors in the Soup, on Saturday, October 3.

Jon Doust, Dianne Wolfer and Adam Morris are set to share their talents in an afternoon of storytelling, good conversation and live music.

Attendees will be able to pick the authors’ brains as they rotate around tables to read from their novels over a bowl of hot soup.

Albany Community Hospice fundraising committee chair Jeanann Barbour said the event was an opportunity to get up close and personal with the creators.

“This will not be your normal literary event,” she said.

“The writers will read from their novels, soup will be served and then they will come down from their pedestals and join the audience, one table at a time, for a more personalised chat.”

Doust will share an excerpt from his latest novel, Return Ticket, after having to cancel his book launch because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s hard talking to a room full of people slurping their soup,” he said.

“But this way, sitting at a table with a much smaller audience, slurping becomes a close and personal encounter.”

Tickets are available from Paperbark Merchants or the Albany Community Hospice website.
