AFL 2025: Western Bulldog Jamarra Ugle-Hagan has taken indefinite leave
Western Bulldogs forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan is taking indefinite leave from the club to deal with his well-documented personal issues.
Ugle-Hagan has not played a game this season and has been operating under a flexible training program.
The club said the decision was reached by mutual agreement with Ugle-Hangan and his and his family, his management, the Club and the AFL.
“Jamarra’s health and wellbeing remains the absolute priority and he will be given whatever time he needs,” executive manager Sam Power said.
“We will continue to support Jamarra throughout this period.”
Amid reports of relationship breakdowns with teammates and with coach Luke Beveridge the future of Ugle-Hagan, who was drafted as the No.1 pick after being a member of the club’s academy, has been murky.
Social media posts of Ugle-Hagan partying while his teammates trained have earned the 23-year-old heavy criticism.
Beveridge said as recently as last week that a playing return was not likely in the immediate future and the latest move could bring his time at the club to a head.
“Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who it is, if you are making concerted choices from an integrity point of view about who is out there with you on the battlefield,” Beveridge said recently.
“It’s going to take a while.”
Ugle-Hagan has been linked to a move out of Victoria, although rival clubs could baulk at taking him on given his well-documented troubles.
