STM Loves: Tame Impala’s Deadbeat, Champagne Soiree, Mister Zimi and Perth Royal Show

Tame Impala
Kevin Parker was inspired by “bush doof culture” and the WA rave scene for his upcoming fifth album, Deadbeat, out on October 17. The music was brought to life between the renowned musician’s home in Fremantle and his studio, Wave House, in Injidup earlier this year and recasts “Tame Impala as a kind of future primitive rave act”. Described as music in which the known perfectionist behind track The Less I Know The Better finally allows himself to embrace spontaneity, “Parker sculpts a collection of wickedly potent club-psych explorations as a vehicle for some of his most direct, brain-wormy songwriting to date”. The first single, Loser, is out now; an accompanying video stars Stranger Things actor Joe Keery.
Champagne Soiree
Fizz fanatics — this one is for you. French champagne will be judged against Australian sparkling as wine reviewer Brenden Robnik and Top Up Wines’ Chris Masten take punters through eight leading sips for the ultimate test at H&C Urban Winery in Fremantle. There will be James Suckling’s 2023 Wine of the Year, Laurent-Perrier’s Grand Siecle Iteration No.26 to try, plus canapes on offer and $2 oysters. Tickets are available from Oztix, starting at $98.

Perth Royal Show
This spring school holiday favourite is back for another year, promising the Australian debut of a 24m-high extreme ride called the Lunarix and its biggest fireworks finale ever with a “360-degree immersive ‘sky theatre’” over Claremont Showgrounds. Night-time entertainment will also include a drone show and during the day, families can explore the value-for-money Yellow Brick Road trail, the rides and games along sideshow alley, runway events featuring Australian wool, a high dive show from Montreal’s Flying Fools and family-friendly R&B music from Zindzi & The Zillionaires. The show runs September 27 to October 4, see perthroyalshow.com.au.

Mister Zimi
As we skip into spring and the sun makes a reappearance we are excited to get some colour into our wardrobes, and a stop at Mister Zimi is at the top of the list. The Aussie resort brand has the perfect vibrant pieces to pair with a blazer or cardi while the weather heats up, or wear with your favourite thongs and floppy hat during summer. Its latest collection, Frida, was inspired by the bold art of Mexico, as reflected through the bright tones of the printed maxis, vibrant sets and interesting detailing. Mister Zimi can be purchased online, or from its Claremont boutique.
