STM Loves: Kate Emery, HyperLuxe’s polo, Sinners, 10 Nights In Port and Tonic + Ginger dim sum
HyperLuxe polo
They did it once and they’ve done it again. HyperLuxe’s ultra popular rugby polo has a new look and it’s a home-run in our eyes. The short sleeve rendition is the perfect Perth fashion staple that can take you from summer to winter in timeless, versatile fashion. Shop the polo in store at the Karrinyup, Applecross or North Beach locations, or online at hyperluxeactivewear.com.au.
Bottomless Dim Sum
Are you looking for somewhere to spice up the start of your weekend? Tonic + Ginger located at The Old Synagogue in Fremantle is running a bottomless banquet of southeast Asian dim sum every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The offerings sound delicious; pork and prawn pad siu mai, beef tartare served with pear and gochujang, and a drink selection with options such as the dragon’s blaze, or the yuzu kiss. Bottomless cocktails and wine is $89 but there’s also a boozeless option for $65pp.
10 nights in Port
Fremantle’s winter festival is returning with a stacked line-up of 31 unique performances, exhibitions and installations designed to surprise and delight those who make it down to the port city. The Fremantle Town Hall will be the beating heart of the festival, hosting a dance party, experiment theatre, children’s sensory workshops and plenty of performances, while nearby Esplanade Park will come alive with an interactive installation created by Lara Rose Bos. Running from August 7 to 17, there will be plenty to do and see for everyone from kids to those looking for a late-night boogie. More details can be found at 10nightsintheport.com.au.
Sinners
This vampire flick from sought-after director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Creed) stars his long-time collaborator Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, as twin brothers who return to their hometown. It was a massive hit in theatres, and among some of the highest-grossing horror films released in IMAX in the US, but if you missed it on the big screen, it’s now on streaming service Max.
Premier’s Book Awards
Our own Kate Emery has been named a finalist in these State-wide awards, for her young adult cosy crime book, My Family And Other Suspects. It joins more than 30 titles selected by a judging panel of readers, writers and book sellers across six categories, such as emerging writer, fiction, non-fiction, poetry and children’s books. The winners will be announced in late August and in the meantime, the State Library is hosting a special event, Stories From The West, with panel discussions, book giveaways and the chance to meet the shortlisted authors on July 27, 1pm-5pm. See slwa.wa.gov.au.
Modo Mio regional dinner series
After traipsing through Italy, Modo Mio’s final regional dinner settles in Emilia-Romagna, the northern region known as the birthplace of tortellini and bolognese sauce. Expect indulgent and flavour-packed dishes such as gnocco fritto, tortellini stuffed with prosciutto and mortadella, tagliatelle bolognese followed by a torta tenerina al cioccolato (a rich, flourless chocolate cake). The July 16 dinner is $125, or $190 with beverage pairings, more details at crownperth.com.au.
