There’s no denying it’s been another challenging year for many people, with the rising cost of living putting more pressure on already stretched budgets. It has been even more difficult for those already experiencing financial hardship.

According to The Salvation Army, one in five Australian households have experienced food insecurity in the past 12 months. Last year, three in 20 parents were concerned their children would miss out on presents at Christmas.

REIWA and its members are proud to launch our Christmas Appeal in support of Salvos’ 2026 Christmas Appeal. We are asking for your help to bring some much-needed joy and respite to those in need over the festive season.

Our commitment to the Christmas Appeal is part of our longstanding support of The Salvation Army through our philanthropic Community REInvest program, which helps ensure Salvos can continue its vital work in supporting vulnerable individuals and families across Western Australia.

Last year, through the generosity of REIWA members and the wider community, the REIWA Christmas Appeal helped facilitate 550 appointments for assistance, provided more than 200 food hampers, and distributed over $127,000 worth of vouchers and toys.

From Monday November 2 to Friday November 27, 31 REIWA Community REInvest member agencies across Perth, and one in Kalgoorlie, will serve as collection points, making it easy for you to contribute new, unwrapped gifts, gift vouchers or non-perishable food items for those who need them most. REIWA’s head office at 215 Hay Street, Subiaco will also accept donations.

These donations have a deep and lasting impact on struggling families and individuals, transforming what could be a bleak Christmas into one filled with hope.

While donations for all age groups are greatly appreciated, gifts and gift cards for older children and teenagers are particularly valued by Salvos, as these are often in shorter supply than gifts for younger kids. Gift cards, in particular, make a great present as they allow parents or guardians to share in the special delight of buying a gift for their child.

For a full list of participating agencies, gift ideas and suggestions for non-perishable food items, visit the About Us section on reiwa.com and follow the Community REInvest link. If you would prefer to make a financial donation or volunteer your time, please visit The Salvation Army’s website.

I know many people are facing increased financial pressures this year, but if you are able to donate to the Christmas Appeal, you will make a very real difference in someone’s life.
