A man has died and three people have been injured after a car left the road and crashed into a tree.

The incident occurred on Hinton Rd at Suttontown, about 435km south of Adelaide, at 9.45pm on Sunday.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Millicent, died at the scene.

Three passengers — a 28-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy —suffered injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital by ambulance, police said.

A police spokesman said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

“Major crash investigators attended and examined the scene overnight,” a spokesman said.

“Investigations into the crash are ongoing.”

It is the 86th road fatality to occur in South Australia this year.
