Lloyds Auctions says John Harvey’s iconic 1977 Holden Torana LX should sell for at least $1 million

An iconic Holden race car is expected to sell for more than $1 million when it goes up for auction this weekend.

Driver John Harvey drove the 1977 Torana LX in the Australian Touring Car Championship, where it found great success.

The car has the correct HTD Marlboro livery of the time and bears Harvey’s number 76, but also comes with racing equipment such as the spare tyres required for racing, Harvey’s worn jacket, boots and helmet, trophies, racing records and other memorabilia items.

Lloyds Auctions cheif operating officer Lee Hames said the car was running as “good as the old days thundering around the tracks” and said the $1 million estimate could prove conservative given online bidding was laready in excess of $700,000.

“Who knows what this car could end up selling for, I wouldn’t be surprised if it sells for $2 million,” Hames said.

“The significance and provenance of this car is paramount to Australian history and is something that is very special and extremely rare.

“There is no other like this car, it is one-of-one.”
