Mitsubishi has revealed pricing and specs for the new Eclipse Cross PHEV, with the plug-in hybrid small SUV to go on sale locally from mid-August priced from $46,490 plus on road costs.

It makes it easily the most expensive variant in the Eclipse Cross line-up, with the current Exceed AWD range topper costing $40,790 plus on roads.

It’s also almost on par with Mitsubishi’s bigger Outlander PHEV, which starts at $47,990.

The Eclipse Cross PHEV pairs a 94kW/199Nm 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors sending 60kW/137Nm to the front wheels and 70kW/195Nm to the rears.

A 13.8kW battery powers the electric motors, which means the Eclipse Cross PHEV can cover up to 55km under electric power.

Like the Outlander PHEV, the Eclipse Cross’ has a 1.9L/100km claimed combined fuel consumption figure.

A standard 10-amp socket will provide a 0-100 per cent charge in seven hours.

Drivers can choose from EV Mode, which uses only battery power, or Hybrid Mode which will use the battery where possible, with the petrol engine taking over or serving as a generator to charge the battery.

It could also be used to one day power your home, either by using the energy stored in the battery, or by using the petrol engine to allow the car to be a “generator on wheels”.

A number of features can be controlled via the Mitsubishi Remote Control app.

It allows drivers to plan and activate battery charging remotely to take advantage of off-peak electricity tariffs, plus pre-heat or pre-cool the cabin or check if a door or tailgate is open or the headlights are on.

Additionally, a car finder function can be set to activate the vehicle parking light or headlamp for a pre-determined time to locate the vehicle when within wireless LAN range.
