Hyundai has revealed more details of its updated i30 N, with the hot hatch officially launching in Europe.

We already knew it will finally have the option of an automatic transmission when it arrives in Australia in the first half of next year, but there are some other cool goodies also being added.

Power and torque have been bumped 4kW and 39Nm to now offer 206kW and 392Nm — and the increased output can be enjoyed in a new fashion.

The auto box allows for three new drive funstions: the excellently named N Grin Shift, N Power Shift and N Track Sense Shift.

As the name implies, Grin Shift releases maximum power for 20 seconds by pushing a button on the steering wheel.

A countdown begins on the cluster showing the remaining seconds for the function.

N Power Shift kicks in when the car accelerates with more than 90 per cent of throttle, using upshifts to deliver maximum power to the wheels and mitigating any reduction in torque.

Hyundai says this enhances fun by giving a “push feel” when upshifting.

N Track Sense Shift activates automatically by recognising when the road conditions are optimal for dynamic driving, such as on a racetrack.

It tweaks the transmission to pick the right gear and shift timing for top performance.

The steering and suspension have been retuned, while the front seats have been replaced by new, lighter pews.

There will be a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, plus safety upgrades including pedestrian detection, lane following assist, blindspot collision warning and collision avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance warning and collision avoidance assist.

The updates will apply to both hatch and Fastback body styles.

What the upgrades do to the pricing will be known closer to the Australian launch.
