2021 Genesis G70 Shooting Brake revealed, coming to Australia in second half of the year

Genesis is continuing its pursuit of its established luxury rivals, revealing the G70 Shooting Brake which will spearhead its launch into Europe in the coming months and arrive in Australia in the second half of this year.

Wagons are big business in Europe and the G70 Shooting Brake will provide Hyundai’s premium offshoot a rival for the likes of the BMW 3 Series Touring, Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate and Audi A4 Avant.

Despite Genesis Motors Europe managing director Dominique Boesch describing the Shooting Brake as a “bespoke product tailored for our European customers”, it will still join Australia’s dwindling medium wagon ranks.

“The G70 Shooting Brake marries luxury and European automotive heritage with our design philosophy of Athletic Elegance,” Boesch said.

The G70 Shooting Brake is the same size as the new G70, measuring in At 4685mm long, 1850mm wide, 1400mm tall and with a 2835mm wheelbase, the Shooting Brake is the same size as the G70 sedan.

Despite this, Genesis says the wagon’s luggage space is 40 per cent bigger — however given the sedan’s 330-litre boot is small for the class, this would mean the Shooting Brake still only offers a ho-hum 462 litres.

Rear seats fold in a 40/20/40 split to help practicality.

There is no word on local pricing or specification as yet, though one would assume the Australian line-up would largely mirror the sedan range.

The G70 sedan is available in three trims with a choice of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol or a 3.3-litre twin turbo V6, offering 179kW/353Nm and 272kW/510Nm respectively.

The range starts at $59,300 plus on roads and tops out at $79,950, with premium wagons generally attracting a $2500-$4000 premium above their sedan counterparts.
