Toyota has unveiled further details on its new Hilux Rogue and Rugged X flagships, with each range-topper seeing its sticker price rise significantly.

The pair now cost from $68,990 and $69,990 plus on-road costs respectively, representing a $6500-$7500 jump.

However, the outgoing models were often available with drive-away pricing close to their list price, so when on-road costs are added to the new prices the difference could be in five figures.

It’s in keeping with Toyota’s recent approach, which has seen the new Yaris and the rest of the Hilux range all come in for significant price increases.

The new Hilux flagships are due in showrooms in late November, however exact timing isn’t yet known due to restrictions in Melbourne, where the vehicles undergo their final assembly.

Toyota calls the Rogue and Rugged X the “most Australian” versions of the Hilux, due to its local arm’s extensive input into the end product.

Toyota’s Australian design team led the way in the pair’s restyling, looking to make the exteriors more aggressive and sporty.

The local conversions and accessories division led engineering, development and testing for new components, including the Rogue’s motorised roller cover and the Rugged X’s aggressive grille.

Pitched as a more on-road aimed family ute, the Rogue gets its own styling fesatures such as aggressive fender flares, unique wheel-arch mouldings and an all-new resin sports bar, plus dark new designs for its 18-inch wheels, rear bumper and tailgate, two front and four rear parking sensors and improved coverage of the marine-grade carpet tub liner.

Its off-roader Rugged X sibling gets a new grille theme and lower bash plate with Toyota written in black, more pronounced over-fenders, newly designed, black 17-inch wheel and decals on the bonnet and rear quarter panel.

To aid off-road, it has heavy-duty front springs, a snorkel with reversible head, front and rear recovery points, heavy-duty rock rails, moulded tub tray with tailgate protection, a heavy-duty rear bumper with integrated step and a centrally mounted LED light bar.

Both variants get puddle lights, a towbar, tow ball, tongue and fully installed seven-pin flat trailer wiring harness and more as standard.

As with the rest of the range, the Rogue and Rugged X benefit from more power and torque, safety gear, suspension upgrades and more.
