Prince Harry and Prince William were ‘arguing for past 18 months’

The rift between Prince Harry and Prince William is more entrenched than previously thought, a high profile British journalist has suggested. News presenter and political editor Tom Bradby claims Harry and William have been arguing for the past 18 months. The journalist, who has been a favourite with the younger royals, also revealed he did not negotiate ITV’s rights for Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. In a story in The Times Bradby pinpointed the feud between the brothers to a specific time frame. He said their previously strong bond “slowly descended into something that was difficult – personally and publicly – really over the past year and a half”. He also revealed it was difficult being caught in between the brothers as he counts both of them as friends. It comes after a difficult few years for William and Harry which saw Megxit as the final straw. In a 2019 interview with Bradby, Prince Harry revealed that he and William were already “on different paths”. Bradby has been fairly close to the princes, particularly William, over the past 20 years. He was given the scoop on William and Kate’s engagement interview and he was the host of Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the behind-the-scenes look at the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ visit to southern Africa. Now, sources say senior royal aides were allegedly unhappy with Bradby and ITV News’ reporting on Megxit, and Prince William has since cut ties with Bradby, feeling “let down” by his ongoing allegiance to Harry. Bradby said: “It used to be quite a straightforward thing, right, because they weren’t arguing and life was simple.” The journalist’s bond with Harry and Meghan strengthened during the September 2019 trip to South Africa when he noticed the couple seemed to be not coping mentally. In the subsequent ITV documentary he famously asked Meghan about the pressure of public scrutiny in her new role as a royal and a mother, and whether or not she was okay. She thanked him for asking the question and Bradby responded: “And the answer is — would it be fair to say, not really okay?” Meghan responded, “Yes.” In his interview with The Times, Bradby said he did not wish to reveal details of the brother’s ongoing feud, but he revealed his own struggles with mental health had made him aware of the struggle in others, including the royal newlyweds while on tour in Africa. “I didn’t think they were in great shape, and so I altered the way I was planning to do the documentary,” he revealed. “I don’t regret doing that. There may be other times in the future in a whole range of subjects that I will alter my approach if I sense something similar.” He said with Meghan “I felt like there was an untold story there … And I decided to try to bring that side out.” Declining to speak further on Harry and William, Bradby declared that princes are “my least favourite subject in the world”.
