Perth Festival 2026 program announced with Anna Reece in her second year at the artistic director helm

Building on the ambition and relevance of this year’s Perth Festival during her inaugural year as artistic director, Anna Reece maintains that momentum with the program launch of Perth Festival 2026. Holding firmly to Reece’s curatorial pillars, East Perth Power Station returns after the cultural hub’s debut attracted more than 80,000 people to the venue’s Casa Musica free live music offerings, ticketed world-class Main Stage acts and powerful Boorloo Contemporary artworks by First Nations artists. The festival’s CBD heartbeat is also back with The Embassy at Perth Town Hall, inspired by Perth’s historic Embassy Ballroom, with a program of jazz, blues, soul, cabaret and contemporary crooners, while Karla Bidi continues to light the way at 11 river locations. “It was very important at the beginning of my tenure to establish that backbone of the festival,” Fremantle born-and-raised Reece said. “To really say quite strongly and confidently ‘We’re a West Australian festival that delivers an international festival in arts and culture for a city that should be considered an international city of arts and culture’. “It’s really lovely this year to be presenting more and more WA work that can and should be part of the international scene.” Reece said her desire to attract a younger and more diverse audience came to fruition in 2025 as she continued to curate a Perth Festival of truth-tellers and mischief-makers. “The festival responds to artists, and artists are responding to the world,” Reece said. “If we can just maintain that as a core ambition of showcasing the best of the West, and bringing the best of the world to here, it’s a very simple, powerful thing to aspire to. “The greatest thing about this festival is how accountable we are and that everyone has an opinion. And while you know that not everything in the festival is for everyone, the absolute goal is that everyone can find something there for them.” Start the search for your “something” in these Perth Festival 2026 highlights. Theatrical thrills Monumental French theatre production Lacrima by Caroline Guiela Nguyen reveals the behind-the-scenes world of haute couture, while cult cabaret artist Meow Meow’s The Red Shoes will remedy the brutal Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. The Last Great Hunt’s Le Nor [the rain] faux foreign film created live on stage returns to a larger venue, and performer Jaha Koo brings his South Korean theatrical snack bar experience Haribo Kimchi in an Australian exclusive. Music box Electronic composer Max Cooper opens the East Perth Power Station Main Stage program, which also features Baker Boy with Snotty Nose Rez Kids, Morcheeba, Black Country, New Road, Nilufer Yanya and Sudan Archives. Ali Bodycoat & The Embassy Big Band step audiences back in time to when jazz, swing and romance reigned. Other acts gracing The Embassy stage are Somi, the first African woman to be nominated for a jazz Grammy award, Mama Kin Spender with a theatrical performance of their ARIA-nominated concept album Promises, drag diva Le Gateau Chocolat’s specially curated song cycle Raw Cacao, and Meow Meow in a one-night-only show with Iain Grandage on keys. Finding sanctum Continuing to embrace new spaces while Perth Concert Hall undergoes renovation, Sanctum Series at St Mary’s Cathedral is a new inclusion of fine music experiences, starting with WASO’s Echoes Through Time and continuing with acts including Grammy-winning vocal group Roomful of Teeth and Irish master fiddler Martin Hayes. On the dancefloor Award-winning UK choreographer and dancer Aakash Odedra presents solo dance work Songs Of The Bulbul, inspired by the ancient Sufi myth of a bulbul (nightingale), and Chunky Move’s artistic director Antony Hamilton has created six-performer strong futuristic dance epic UNITED. STRUT Dance returns to Forrest Place with a Perth Moves program of dance activations and open-air XXL dance workshop CERCLES. Visual appeal East Perth Power Station will spring to life with projections and installations by Bibbulmun Noongar/Budimia Yamatji artist Lance Chadd Tjyllyungoo, as Kait James’ Blak Flags features a series of colour pennant flags hoisted around the venue. Wiradjuri-Scottish artist April Phillips’ Under Waters is set to transform PICA’s gallery into a meditative parallel universe, and Boorloo Bridge will be a digital canvas for Kwop Ben’s large-scale animated light piece, Good Light.
