Perth-raised popstar Troye Sivan has just dropped a new single and it’s taking us straight back to the 1980s.

The ARIA award winner has been teasing his new music on social media for days while hinting at his latest sound with his wide-collared, 80’s style suiting choices.

And his latest track, Easy, starts with a beat reminiscent of pop’s heyday.

Sivan today also confirmed he plans to follow up his latest tracks Easy and Take Yourself Home with an EP release.

The 25-year-old will deliver a brand new EP, In A Dream on August 21.

“A story that’s still unfolding, this small collection of songs explores an emotional rollercoaster period in my life, when the feelings and thoughts were most shockingly fresh,” Sivan said of In A Dream.

“Revisiting these songs and moments is tough, but I’m proud of this music and excited to have it out in the world.”

In amidst his flurry of music making, Sivan has also promised a self-directed music video for Easy will roll out tomorrow.

This latest EP will feature six tracks, with Easy the second release followed by ‘could cry just thinkin about you,’ ‘STUD’ ‘Rager teenager!’ and title track ‘IN A DREAM.’

Today’s release shows Sivan is staying true to his infectious pop roots, with Easy described as a “plea to set a relationship back on course”.

And in a stroke of luck, the Perth raised talent managed to squeeze in the recording of five of the six tracks just before Los Angeles went into lockdown.

Sivan was travelling between Stockholm and Los Angeles to record with producer Oscar Gorres, who has worked with global acts like The Weeknd and Tove Lo.

In A Dream follows the success of his lead track Take Yourself Home, which reached the number one trending spot on Twitter worldwide when it was released earlier this year, during the peak of the COVID-19 restrictions here in Australia.

PAPER magazine declared his pandemic soundtrack “the first great song to come out of our collective apocalyptic state of mind during the COVID-19 outbreak.”
