The lineup for Laneway Festival has been revealed, and while Perth will miss out on the summer event, organisers have attempted to lessen the blow by announcing sideshows for the forgotten city.

Last month, organisers of the predominantly indie-pop festival said they are “taking a break” from shows in Perth and Adelaide next year due to logistical challenges.

On Wednesday, the lineup was announced with Irish post-punk outfit Fontaines D.C. and Hayley Williams to headline the festival run kicking off in Sydney on February 12, Brisbane on February 13, Melbourne on February 19 and Auckland on February 21.

Joining them are the likes of Slayyyter, Slavic singer and dancer Adela, sleaze-pop queen Kim Petras, Muna and indie-pop artist Rachel Chinouriri.

For electronic music fans, Ninajirachi will take to the stage alongside Horsegiirl. The lineup continues with rapper Rommulas, Danny L Harle, Aussie-Filipino artist Daine, Jane Remover and hyper-pop artist Tiffany Day.

Rounding out the multi-genre bill is US rapper Rico Nasty, Brooklyn’s DIIV, Los Angeles band Automatic, New Zealand indie-rockers Balu Brigada and indie-music newcomer Violet Grohl.

A contingent of up-and-coming Irish artists Bleech 9:3, Florence Road and Gurriers are set to feature alongside Aussie acts Ecca Vandal, Public Figures, Swapmeet and Trials.

Between sets, 1TBSP and DJ_Dave will provide the soundtrack to a grand day of live music.

While Perth will sadly miss out on the fun, organisers announced that Fontaines D.C. will play headline shows in both Perth and Adelaide — their only Aussie performances outside of the festival.

Fontaines D.C. will perform at RAC Arena on February 9 and will be joined by Gurriers as the support act.

The special show follows the band’s 20-date arena tour across Europe and the UK. They also arrive in Australia in support of their fifth album Dopamine Chamber set for release on October 16.

Jane Remover will also perform a headline show at The Rechabite on February 10 while Tiffany Day will bring her headline show to The Rechabite on February 16.

In a social media post, Laneway organisers announced on August 10 that the festival wouldn’t be returning to Perth and Adelaide.

“To our Adelaide and Perth friends, we know this will be disappointing. In 2027, Laneway will be taking a break in your cities,” the Instagram post said.

“For over two decades, we’ve had the pleasure of bringing Laneway to Australia and New Zealand, with stints in Singapore and Detroit too.

“Running so many shows, so close together, across so much ground is a logistical feat we are proud of, but it also asks a lot of our line-up and crew.

“Taking a pause allows us to focus on making the festival the best it can be, while freeing up time for more artists to bring headline shows to cities beyond our festival stops.

“Adelaide and Perth, we love you! We are incredibly grateful to every single person who has shown up for us over the years.”

Excluding COVID-19 years, Laneway has been to Perth every year since 2009, and Adelaide since 2008.
