Perth will host the Australian premiere of Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike Live, an all-new touring production of dance, acrobatics and comedy at Crown Theatre next February.

Created and co-directed by Tatum, the 90-minute show has a reputation for being more than a scantily-clad spectacle like the movies are well known for - while still also offering a centralised stage full of shirtless, gyrating beefcakes promoting a sex positive attitude.

Its also got acrobatics, aerial performances, funny one-liners and audience interaction, live music and for those who may have seen a previous iteration, new choreography.

South African Kalon Badenhorst will be Mike, the role he has long reprised in the US and on Broadway.

Australian performer Julie Yamannee shares the role of MC with Chelsea Lee Wheatley.

The Australian production will transform both venues into 360-degree theatre spaces, with audiences surrounding the performers encouraged to stand up and dance.

Perth will be the first of two stops in Australia next year, before the show heads to Adelaide Festival Centre in April.

Crown Perth chief executive Brian Pereira said securing the Australian premiere was a win.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing Magic Mike Live to Crown Perth and giving Western Australian the chance to experience one of the world’s most talked-about live shows before anyone else in the country,” he said.
