Kanye West has just announced he’s running to become the next president of the USA.

West made the announcement in a Twitter posting, sharing his plan to run for office to his 29.3 million followers on Sunday and quickly drew in a mixed reaction.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” West tweeted with #2020VISION.

There’s no indication whether or not the 43-year-old rapper is serious but he was quickly backed by billionaire Elon Musk who followed up with a tweet “You have my full support!”

While others were more critical of the notion, whether this was simply just another bizarre move by the song-writer who once claimed he was the “greatest artist of all-time”.

“I think you might be a tiny bit late for this election,” one user wrote.

“You may be the only person more needy and insecure than our current President,” another wrote.

With the US election just four months away, West has already passed plenty of State filing deadlines and primary elections. It would also see him running against his favourite politician, President Donald Trump as an independent candidate.

West has been a vocal pro-Trump supporter and in May told GQ magazine he was “definitely voting this time” after previously revealing he wasn’t registered to vote.

“I’m definitely voting this time. And we know who I’m voting on,” West told the publication.

“And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over.”

It appears his reality TV star wife Kim Kardashian West could see herself as America’s first lady, retweeting the post.
