Sutton Foster has opened up about feeling “really alone” as her high-profile romance with Hugh Jackman continues to draw intense public attention.
The Broadway star, 51, made the candid admission during a recent Women’s Health Lab panel titled The Science of Staying Strong: Longevity, Movement & Resilience, where she discussed coping with stress and navigating life in the spotlight.
“I’ve been a leading lady for a long time … but often I feel really alone,” she confessed.
Foster said the experience prompted her to reconnect with fellow performers, revealing that many shared similar feelings despite their public success.
“I reached out to a lot of my contemporaries last year, and a lot of the women on Broadway, and we are all usually on our own.
“Everyone shared the commonality of loneliness,” she added, according to Women’s Health.
The comments come as Foster’s relationship with Jackman remains under public scrutiny.
The pair, who starred together in Broadway’s The Music Man between 2021 and 2023, were first linked in late 2024 before confirming their romance months later when they were photographed holding hands during a dinner date in Santa Monica.
Foster also appeared to reflect on the public tendency to place women in opposition to one another, remarks likely to spark renewed interest given ongoing commentary surrounding Jackman’s former wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.
“Women of power can actually support each other, and we don’t have to be pitted against each other.”
Jackman and Furness announced their separation in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage, describing the split at the time as an amicable decision to “pursue individual growth”. But speculation intensified following the finalisation of their divorce, when Furness publicly referred to a “traumatic journey of betrayal”, fuelling rumours of an overlap between Jackman and Foster, claims neither party has addressed.
Meanwhile, reports have continued to swirl around Jackman and Foster’s future, including claims earlier this year that wedding plans were already taking shape behind the scenes.
