The Queensland Government is embarking on a trade mission to China this week, aiming to rebuild key relationships and expand the state’s presence in one of its most important economic markets.

Led by Queensland Trade Minister Ros Bates, the delegation will visit Shanghai, Hong Kong and Shenzhen for a series of high-level meetings and events aimed at boosting commercial and education sector outcomes.

As part of the mission, Ms Bates will officially open a new Trade and Investment Queensland office in Shenzhen to support ongoing efforts in the fast-growing Greater Bay Area.

The trip marks Queensland’s return to Hong Kong’s HOFEX 2025, one of Asia’s largest food, beverage, and hospitality trade shows, after a five-year absence.

The event features more than 1200 international exhibitors and draws over 30,000 buyers.

The visit follows the launch of the Queensland–China Trade and Investment Strategy 2025, a road map by the Crisafulli Government aimed at driving stronger outcomes for exporters and education providers.

Queensland last attended HOFEX in 2019, securing $3.68 million in outcomes.

Ms Bates said the state’s ties with China were vital to job creation and economic growth.

“China is Queensland’s largest trading partner, accounting for more than $43 billion in trade last year alone,” Minister Bates said.

“We are leading from the front with our trade partners, assuring stakeholders that Queensland is delivering on our commitment to stability, certainty, and growth.

She said she hopes to “rebuild” relationships and deliver a “fresh start for Queensland”.
