Hardware giant Bunnings Warehouse wants to relocate from its Subiaco site to Jolimont and build another store twice as big.

Bunnings has leased the Salvado Road site from Homebase Management for almost 30 years and now wants to move to 616 Hay Street in Jolimont, a $55 million effort it says would provide an “improved service offering for the City of Subiaco community”.

The proposed Hay Street development would be twice the size of Subiaco’s existing store, sprawling over a 10,000sqm space.

Regional operations manager Hayley Coulson said the development would create 150 jobs in construction and floor staff.

“The new Bunnings Warehouse would provide customers with a broader range of home improvement and lifestyle products and we look forward to working with the council and the community to progress the application,” she said.

Applicant Element plans to build the four-storey development at the Hay Street site with an outdoor nursery, timber trade sales section, bagged goods canopy, main warehouse, cafe, playground and DIY workshop.

Homebase general manager Gino Premici said the franchise was “locked in” to call Salvado Road home for the next five years.

“There’s no other plan other than working with them as a tenant for the next five years,” he said.

Mr Premici said there were no plans in the pipeline for what would replace the Salvado Road store after its proposed departure from the site.

The plans are out for public comment until October 9.
